“There’s no doubt that technology is revolutionising traditional workflows in the cabinet manufacturing industry”, said Scott Purdom, Owner at Lamin8 Scotland and Robert Sinclair Interiors.
Overcoming Growth Challenges with Microvellum’s CAD/CAM Solution
Founded in 2002, Lamin8 Scotland began by investing in people, software, and machinery to serve their niche residential and commercial market. However, as the company grew, their CAD/CAM software started limiting their progress. In 2009, Scott and his team chose Microvellum, an AutoCAD-based design-for-manufacturing platform, to unify workflows between Lamin8 Scotland and Robert Sinclair Interiors. “We had to start thinking like a technology company to stay ahead of the competition,” shared Scott.
Client-Centric Joinery Designs Powered by Microvellum’s Flexible Software
“The nature of our business is very client-centric,” said Scott. “When our clients ask for unique, bespoke designs and fabrication, we aim to deliver and exceed their expectations. Having software that limited our vision and capacity to live up to our values was frustrating. Microvellum allowed us to make that change. Now, we can meet client demands and stay flexible, which is key to our success.”

Streamlining Production Efficiency with SCM Integration
As Lamin8 continued its growth, Scott invested further in both technology and machinery, partnering with Microvellum and SCM Group. Their production facility now includes advanced machinery like the UK’s first Morbidelli CX 220 Morbidelli CX 220, SCM Record 132 router, Homag KDF 440 airTec edgebander, Biesse SKILL machining center, and Scheer PA4500 beam saw—all seamlessly integrated with Microvellum. "Everyone involved worked together to ensure the connection with our SCM machines and workflows was flawless,” Scott explained.
Staying Ahead in a Competitive Market
“At a time when the world and supply of materials have gone crazy, it’s nice to know we’re working with a company that cares about what we do and has our back. All of this has enabled us to stay a cut above the rest when it comes to residential and commercial joinery in Scotland,” said Scott. Lamin8’s continued investment in technology has helped them maintain their leadership position in the market.
