Getting the Most out of Training
- Set specific learning and training goals then follow up with a plan of action. Look for training that builds on your strengths or takes you to the next level of understanding about a topic, or look for training that provides additional information in areas considered weak. Use the new concepts being discussed to build on your previous knowledge of the subject.
- Consider your processes and generate a list of questions specifically related to those processes. Make sure you ask the presenter during or after the training if your questions weren’t answered.
- Immediately after each training day, write down at least three ideas you want to remember, do, or change.
- Learn from everyone. There are more people to learn from than just the presenter. The other people in the room can be a great way to learn. These people can help you learn during the training and might become great source for information after you leave.
- Take clear, detailed notes. Not only will this be helpful for future reference, it will also help you to remember the topics that were covered.
- Ask questions. If you don’t understand something, ask for clarification. Be involved and participate in the discussions.
- At the end of the training, build an action plan. Review your goals and build a plan to implement what you have learned.
- Have fun and enjoy yourself. You will learn more when you’re having a good time.
