Getting Started with Toolbox

A plan designed to help you get familiar with the basic workflows in Toolbox, Microvellum's AutoCAD-based design for manufacturing software.

This is the Getting Started Training Plan, tailored to bring you up to speed quickly. You'll receive instruction on Toolbox basics, including an interface overview and hands-on project work. Learn how to create your first project, lay out a kitchen design, and customize the cabinets to fit your requirements.

Objective

After completing this plan, you should be able to:

Understand how to access the various interfaces and tools used in the creation and modification of projects and products within Toolbox
Use basic AutoCAD commands to create and manipulate entities in 2D and 3D space.
Understand how to create and customize rooms, walls, moldings and other room components.
Configure your project settings to suit your material, hardware, and cabinet construction preferences.
Draw and manipulate products in rooms, take measurements, and make adjustments.
Understand how to create shop-ready cabinets and detailed shop drawings.
Understand the basic 2D drawing tools and workflows for creating 2D sections, plan, and elevation drawings.
Understand how to automate your 2D detailing process.
Understand the data structure that drives the product library functionality.

Prerequisites

Windows Operations:

Before starting this training, it is essential to have a basic understanding of using Windows operating system. This includes familiarity with tasks such as navigating through files and folders, managing applications, and basic system settings. This foundational knowledge will ensure a smoother learning experience throughout the training.

Installed Software

To get the most out of this training, ensure that you have an installed version of Toolbox (2022, 2023, or 2024) ready for use on your computer before proceeding with this training plan, so you can follow along. If you need to install Toolbox, these videos will assist you:

If you or your company already use Microvellum software, it may be beneficial to create a new local training configuration in Toolbox to separate projects and work you do from your production configuration. These videos will assist you in setting up this new configuration.
