Central Point, Oregon
– March 16, 2009– Microvellum, Inc. today
announced its participation in an “Industry
Tour” sponsored by Rogue Community College that
took place March 4th, 2009. Microvellum was one
of two facilities that were toured by high
school students that were exploring their
options for life after high school. The goal of
the tour was to give the students an idea of the
additional education needed to pursue careers in
the manufacturing industry.
The day began
with a building tour given by Clay Swayze of
Microvellum’s corporate office in Central Point,
Oregon. Dave Peel, Microvellum’s President
started the presentations off by giving the
students a history lesson about Microvellum.

His focus was to encourage the
students to reach out in specific areas of education
such as math, communications, and computers. This would
then enable them to achieve such successful careers in
the manufacturing industry as either a software operator
or developer.
Next, Lenny Scianna, Microvellum’s Director of
Library Development gave the students a tour of
Microvellum Toolbox – highlighting the process a typical
manufacture would run through to send jobs through to
production. With Lenny’s unique experience, growing up
in the wood industry, he was able to relate to the
students, providing them with real-world experiences and
advice.
Doug Morse, Brannon Pumphrey, and Eric McCollom,
then introduced how they each started with Microvellum,
and explained the skills they had to develop to be
successful at their job. The tour then ended with Dave
Peel’s concluding words of encouragement, letting each
student know that there are jobs out there for those who
apply themselves and take the right steps to ensure they
possess the skills needed in the manufacturing industry. |
