Edit Subassemblies Dropdown Commands

Previous | Next

New to Microvellum Toolbox is the ability to add and modify subassemblies in the AutoCAD drawing.  Since a subassembly is a product inside another product, you must add a subassembly to an existing product from the product library.  The subassemblies dropdown menu has the following menu items:

Add Subassembly

To add a subassembly to a product select the "Add Subassembly" menu item.  This will display the available subassemblies that you can add to products.  After selecting which subassembly you would like to add to the product, select the product on the AutoCAD drawing that you would like to add the subassembly to.  Next, you want to pick a point on the product where you would like the subassembly to be drawn.  If you select the <Origin> for the subassembly location, it will use the product’s origin point and place the subassembly there.  After selecting a product, the subassembly will be added to the product.

After selecting the Add Subassembly menu item, the different subassemblies that you can add to the drawing should be displayed in a folder called "Subassemblies".  If nothing is being displayed, you must add a "Subassemblies" folder to the main Microvellum folder.  Then, inside that folder add the folders that you would like to show as subassemblies.  It is recommended that you copy the "Subassemblies" folder from your template folder and paste it into the "Subassemblies" folder that was created in the Microvellum folder.

Prompts

The "Prompts" menu item will display a prompts page for the selected subassembly allowing you to change the width, height, and depth of the subassembly.  If any values are changed in the prompts page for the subassembly, the subassembly will no longer be formula driven with the product.  So if you changed the depth of a subassembly with the "Prompts" menu item and then changed the depth of the product through the products prompts page, the subassembly's depth will not change accordingly.

Copy Subassembly

The "Copy Subassembly" command will copy a subassembly and all of its parts in a product.  The "Copy Subassembly" command works the same as copying Microvellum parts, or using the AutoCAD COPY command.

Move Subassembly

The "Move Subassembly" command will move a subassembly in a product.  All the parts in the subassembly will move as one.  This command is used the same way as moving parts or using the MOVE command in AutoCAD.

Erase Subassembly

The "Erase Subassembly" command will erase a subassembly from a product.  After issuing this command, select the subassembly you want to erase from the AutoCAD drawing.

Explode Subassembly

The "Explode Subassembly" command will take the parts that are in the subassembly and place them in the Cut Parts list.  All of the formulas that are in each subassembly part now become hard-locked values and are no longer formula based.  Exploding a subassembly allows you to draw the subassembly part in 2D and apply custom machining through the Single Part Editor.
