Overdrive Pro Making New Prompts

Previous | Next

To make a new prompt, go to the "Prompts" tab of a product.  Insert a blank row for the prompt by clicking the cell located below where you want the new prompt to be located.  Next, right-click and select Insert Row(s)”.  Enter a name in the “Defined Name” column of that newly inserted row, and then press the “Enter” key to exit editing mode.  Once the name has been entered, click the “Value” column of the newly added row and enter a value for the new defined name.  After a value has been entered, make the new prompt by defining the name.

The new prompt can be used in a formula in a “Cut Parts” sheet by entering an equal sign and then using the Paste Name” command to insert the exact spelling of the new prompt.  We can verify that the link has been created by changing the value of the prompt.  Once the prompt value has been changed, the value of the formula in which the prompt is used will also change.  It should be remembered at this point that a “Prompt” is the same as a “Local Variable”, and that the two words are interchangeable.  When you expand the Local Variables category, you are accessing the Prompts.

Now save the Parts List and access the prompts from the Product List.  The new prompt will be available so you can edit it from the prompts page.
