Pro Material Files
Microvellum is designed to allow you to build a library of components that can be used over and over again for your jobs. A major problem companies face is that materials used to build components change from job to job. Microvellum eliminates these problems through the use of “Material Files”. The Material File is stored in your "Template" folder. Unless you have modified your "Template" folder, your job will have a Material File called “Imperial Material.mtf” or “Metric Material.mtf”, depending on the unit of measure you use. As explained earlier, these files are Excel based documents, but the extension has been changed to MTF to make them easy to identify as Material Files. To open the Material File, select "Material Files" from the "File" drop-down menu. Then select the "Open" option from the "Material Files" fly-out. This will display a menu of the available Material Files in this job. While editing a Material File, you will only edit the Material File for the particular job you are in. Creating New Material Files To create a new Material File, you must use an existing Material File as a template. From the "File" drop down menu select the "New" option under the "Material Files" fly-out. This will display the "New Material File" screen. From this screen you must select the existing Material File you would like to use as the template. Then, enter in the name of the new Material File you would like to create. The new Material File will then open in Overdrive. Deleting a Material File To delete a Material File from a job, select the "Delete" option from the "Material Files" drop down menu. Then select the Material File you would like to delete from the job. Material File Screen After opening a Material File, the Material File screen will be displayed. This screen is divided into two sections. On the left half of the screen you have the "Material Pointers" section with three folders in that section. Each folder has a list of Material Pointers that may be used in the job. On the right half of the screen you have the "Material Inventory" section with five folders in that section. Each folder has a Material Inventory list that may be used in the job. To close the Material File, right-click in either section and select the "Close Material File" option. Using Formulas in Material Columns If you select the material column or "Edge Banding" column, you will notice the formula has an "M!" in it. The "M!" means that the formula is referencing an external workbook, which would be the Material File. Anytime you want to reference a Material File pointer, you can use the "M!" and then the pointer name. Material File Column The Material File Column in the Product List let's you know which Material File is associated with which product. Having multiple Material Files in a job allows you to change the materials for different products or different color schemes. |
