Pro Material Files
The material inventory section of the material file has five different material categories. The first three categories are Sheet Stock, Solid Stock, and Buyout; they can be assigned to any of the parts in a product. The fourth category, Edge Banding, can be applied to any of the edging columns. The last category is used for hardware parts. The material properties will vary depending on the category you are working with. For example, sheet stock items allow you to control the sheet sizes while solid stock items do not. The buyout category may be useful to you if you buy components, such as raised panel doors, from an outside source rather than manufacturing them yourself. These different categories exist to make it easier to organize your inventory. Materials belonging to different categories can be separated into different reports as well. For example, all your buyout doors can be on one report used by the purchasing department. Solid stock can be on another report used by the mill, and sheet stock can be on a third report used by the panel saw operator. If you right-click in the material inventory section, a context menu will be displayed. This context menu will allow you to create, edit, and delete existing materials. Material Inventory Section By right-clicking in the "Material Inventory" section, you will display the context menu for the Material Inventory section. The options are: Find and Replace Depending on the job, many companies have a product line that varies by color. The material file provides an easy way to change colors. Let's say you want to change white melamine to black melamine. Simply right-click in the "Material Inventory" section, and select “Find and Replace” from the menu. In the "Find What" box you want to enter in the word you want to change. In this situation you want to type in white melamine. In the "Replace With" box you want to enter in the words you want to change to. In this case you want to type in black melamine. You also have the option to "Find and Replace" any occurrence in the "Edge Banding" material, too. Select the "Replace Text" button and any occurrences will now be changed. We could have used "white" as the letters to find, but that could have changed "white oak" to "black oak", "white birch" to "black birch", and so one. Add Material The "Add Material" option will use the material that is currently selected as a template for a new material. Selecting this option will display the edit material box. From the edit material box, you can change the description, thickness, grain, material code, and panel sizes of the material. Once this information is filled out, select the "Add Material to List" option to add the new material to the material inventory. Material Code The need for a material code varies depending on a variety of factors. For example, if you are using an optimizer that is limited to eight character material names, the material code can be used for optimization. Some companies have additional software used for inventory control or purchasing. The code may be used to tie the information from Microvellum products to other software applications. The material code can also be used to select a specific tool from your tool file to be used on this material. Panel Sizes While adding a new material to your material inventory, you can also add the available panel sizes for the material. To add a new panel size to the material, enter in all the panel size information. Once you have filled out the quantity, panel width, panel length, and cost, select the "Add Panel Size" button. This will enter in the panel size in the panel size list box to the right. To delete a panel size from the material, select the panel from the panel size list box on the right and select the "Remove Panel Size" button. The options, "Leading Width Trim", "Trailing Width Trim", "Leading Length Trim", and "Trailing Length Trim" are all used for the distance from the edge of the material to place the parts while optimizing and nesting. Edit Material The "Edit Material" option from the context menu will allow you to edit an existing material. The same screen is displayed for the "Edit Material" as the "Add Material" option. The same options are available as well. Delete Material The "Delete Material" option will delete the material that is currently selected. |
