Toolbox Product Properties

Previous | Next

The 12th button in the main Toolbox toolbar is the "Product Properties" button.  After selecting a product with this command, the Product Properties screen will be displayed.  The Product Properties allow you to see all the parts in a product, see how the part is rotated and oriented, and see what machining operations are being done to different parts.  Although the Product Properties was mentioned in the Overdrive Pro section, Part Properties, we will go into more detail about how to use the Product Properties with a product drawn in the AutoCAD drawing.  When using Overdrive all of the part information is located on the spreadsheet.  It is sometimes easier to edit a part in the spreadsheet, but when you have a product drawn in an AutoCAD drawing, all you see is a picture of the product and not any of the part information.  The Product Properties allow you to view all the product and part information.  There are many things you can do from the Product Properties screen that you cannot do anywhere else, such as add new Machining Tokens to parts and associate them to adjacent parts.

In the Product Properties screen there are four tabs: Part Size, Origin & Rotation, Drawing Tokens, and Machining Tokens.  To the right of the four tabs is the "Parts List" that lists the parts associated to the product you selected.  Selecting a different part in the list allows you to view that part’s information, and highlights the part in the AutoCAD drawing.  Below the tabs screen is a "Formula" text box that will display the formula for a selected parameter.  If you select a parameter in any one of the tabs such as Part Width, X Origin, or a Machining Token and that parameter has a formula assigned to it, then the formula will be displayed in the Formula text box.  Below the Formula text box are the following buttons:

Close

This button will close the "Product Properties" screen.

Draw Product

After making changes to any part in the product you must redraw the product for the changes to take affect.  If you do not redraw the product using the "Draw Product" button  before closing down the "Product Properties" screen, none of the changes made will take affect in your product.

Draw Part

The "Draw Part" button acts the same as the "Draw Product" button except it applies only to the part currently selected in the Parts List.  Using the "Draw Part" button will save the changes to the part and allow you to close down the "Product Properties" screen without losing the changes made to that part.

Paste Name

The "Paste Name" button works the same as the "Paste Name" command in Overdrive.  This command allows you to select a name from the prompts page or Global Variables to paste into the formula text box.  This button will only become active after placing your cursor in the Formula text box.

Apply Formula

After making changes to a formula you must apply those changes using the "Apply Formula" button.  If your formula is valid, the result of the formula will be displayed in the parameters text box.  If your formula is invalid, you will receive a "#VALUE?", or "#NAME?" error.

Below the Formula text box there are four radio buttons: Cut Parts, Hardware Parts, Subassemblies, and Prompts.  Each of these radio buttons represents a tab in the spreadsheet.  Selecting a different radio button will display the Cut Parts, Hardware Parts, Subassemblies, or Prompts of the product.
