Commercial cabinetry and millwork manufacturer
meets its mission with Microvellum |

San Diego, Calif.-based Trimm
Woodworking has been providing high quality cabinetry
and millwork to the commercial arena since 1980.
The Trimm team says its mission is to provide that
cabinetry and millwork on time and on budget with
outstanding customer service and exceptional
craftsmanship through leading edge technology. A
big part of meeting that mindset is the result of its
implementation of Microvellum software. |

"Everything starts with the
office," explains Jesse Quiroz, senior project manager
at Trimm Woodworking. "We start working from day
one with Microvellum and AutoCAD. Once the
drawings are approved by the clients, we process the
job. Microvellum is linked to our Biesse CNC
router and our Mayer CNC beam say. The programs
are brought to the shop floor and then everything is
cut. It's all automated." |

Quiroz has worked with
Microvellum software since he started in the woodworking
business 15 years ago. Upon arriving at Trimm
Woodworking eight years ago, he was pleased to find
Microvellum software already in action there.
"Microvellum customized its software to your exact
needs," he said. "All you need is a little bit of
computer skill. Maybe it all used to be difficult
to learn in the past, but today every customer gets its
own customized library. Not every single company
does everything the same way, so Microvellum is able to
talk to you, see what you want and then create your own
library of furniture that you do. We only build
European construction cabinets, for example, and they
created a library a long time ago for that. If a
company uses face frame cabinets, they can create a
library for them as well. If in the future, we
would like to change our products, we could call them
and they can re-customize a library for us." |

Quiroz has strong praise for
Microvellum's technical support, too. "They have
great customer service," he says. "It is the best.
Any time we have a problem all I have to do is call
them. If they can help me with it right on the
spot over the telephone, they'll do it. If not, they'll
hold a computer meeting with us and they can fix it from
Oregon right in front of our eyes. If that still
doesn't work, we can send them the actual file, and
they'll be able to figure it out in less than a day.
They are quick. They know the kind of trade we are
and how everything works, and they accommodate us as
fast as they can. |

"Right now
we have some big projects in the works, and Microvellum
allows us to take these on. The communication from
the office to the shop is streamlined. If we
wanted to run a job without Microvellum, the would shop
would just stop. From day one when we start making
the AutoCAD drawings, we know that the job is following
the right path. All we have to do it scan the
product, throw it on the machine, press the green button
and there we go." |
